Metropolis with Lots of Heart |

With
over 1.2 million inhabitants, the Bavarian state capital is the
third largest city in Germany and an important centre of the arts,
trade, and industry in the region. The city on the River Isar is
renowned for its historic buildings, numerous museums and beautiful
baroque and renaissance churches. To no small extent, Munich owes
its popularity to its charming surroundings. The Alps can be seen
in good weather and there are many lakes in the vicinity of the
city.

Munich
has many attractions. You should start your tour at Marienplatz
in the heart of the city. Here you will find the New and the Old
Town Hall as well as the reconstructed Mariensäule
column. Very close at hand, you will also find the famous
Victuals Market, which you really should explore.
Other sights in the city centre include the Royal Residence
with the Residence Museum and Treasure Chamber
and the Frauenkirche and Theatinerkirche churches.
If you want to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of
Munich, you can do so in the expanses of the English Garden. You

Munich
is famous throughout the world for its Oktoberfest,
which begins every year in September and which the locals refer
to fondly as the "Wies'n" (meadows). Each of the nine
large Munich breweries is represented with a gigantic beer tent.
The "Auer Dult", a second-hand market with a Ferris wheel,
herb stalls and "Steckerlfisch" (skewered fish) is held
three times a year in the Au, one of the old city districts on the
