Cultural Attractions
Kampung Ayer "Villages on Water"
House of Twelve Roofs (Bumbungan Dua Belas)
- Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque Situated
in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan.
Main Attractions: gold dome, observation deck, finest marble,
carpets and furnishings.
- Jamae Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, Gadong:
Centre for Islamic learning and place of worship.
- Istana Nurul Iman: This is the
Sultan's palace. Only on the Sultan's birthday (15th July) and
at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan are visitors allowed
to have a look.
- Chinese temple:Very interesting
to visit during a festival.
- Church of St Andrew's: It is thought
to be the oldest church in in Brunei.
- Asean Square: There is a permanent
display "Harmony in Diversity" by artists FROM the Asean
member countries.
- Museums and Exhibitions
Royal Regalia Building - Attractions: artifacts used in royal
ceremonies, Royal Chariot, the gold and silver ceremonial armoury
and the jewel-encrusted crowns.
- Brunei History Centre:This is the
centre for learning about the history of the sultans of Brunei
and members of the royal family. An exhibition area is attached
to the centre, which is open to the public.
- Brunei Museum: Attractions- artifacts
of the history of Brunei Darussalam, both ancient and the relatively
recent. Among the most interesting items are ancient canons, kris,
gongs and kettles. There is also an exhibition about the different
ethnic communities in the country.
- Malay Technology Museum: Attractions-
technological tools utilised by the Malays in ancient times.
Long houses
Labi, Kuala Belait district
- There are Iban longhouses located in the remote areas near Labi,
Mendaram and Teraja.
- Temburong district: The district
is home to many different ethnic groups. Many Malay villages and
Iban longhouses can be found there.
